Registered Nurse – Surgical, Oncology, General Medicine, Hospice – Full Time Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) and every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse will facilitate the provision of patient care by delivering fundamental, age-appropriate nursing support under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include:

Patient Care Skills
The Nurse will assist the RN/LPN in promoting, restoring, and maintaining optimal patient health by:
- Participating in the creation and sustenance of a healthy work environment by accepting professional direction from the RN and effectively communicating progress, challenges, and completion of assignments.
- Conducting patient hygiene activities, including bathing, foot care, shaving, and hair care.
- Aiding in patient mobility, including ambulation and transfers to and from chairs and stretchers.
- Ensuring patient comfort by implementing repositioning and monitoring hygiene needs.
- Performing non-sterile treatments and assisting in monitoring and reporting of patient pain levels.
- Ensuring that supplies and equipment are readily available, retrieving and returning items as necessary.

Assisting in inpatient and outpatient monitoring activities, including:
- Collecting and documenting patient-related information in accordance with policy and procedure, such as vital signs and the handling of valuables.
- Observing and reporting patient elimination patterns, including emptying Foley bags and recording output.
- Assisting with the preparation of patients for surgery and special procedures, as well as collecting non-sterile specimens.
- Recognizing and timely reporting abnormal situations, such as pain or respiratory distress.
- Utilizing computer systems for documentation as directed and observing patients in restraints per policy.
- Assisting with meal service, including menu selection and monitoring patient intake.
Safety and Compliance
The Nurse is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for patients and coworkers by:
- Identifying unsafe conditions and reporting them to the supervisor immediately.
- Using Universal Precautions to safeguard against infection.
- Closely observing patients at risk for falls or injury.
- Reporting defective equipment and handling biomedical waste properly.
Continuous Improvement and Professional Standards
Engagement in quality assessment and improvement activities, including:

Qualifications
- Must hold a Licensed Registered Nurse credential from the Michigan Board of Nursing within two months (60 days) of hire or transfer.
- Certification as a Basic Life Support Provider from the American Heart Association (AHA) required within three months (90 days) of hiring or transfer.
- A graduate of an accredited professional nursing program (RN) is required.
