Job description:
Manages the execution of all operations in the rooms area departments, which include Front Office, Engineering/Maintenance, and Housekeeping, while overseeing the associated staff. Focuses on enhancing guest and employee satisfaction and maximizing the department’s financial performance. Monitors adherence to established standards and procedures, and leads the team in aligning with property goals.
Candidate Profile
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or GED with a minimum of four years of experience in guest services, front desk, housekeeping, or a related professional area; OR
- A two-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field, coupled with two years of experience in guest services, front desk, housekeeping, or a related professional area.
Core Work Activities
Leading Room Operations Team
- Ensures that departmental goals are well communicated and understood by the team, particularly regarding guest tracking and productivity.
- Manages all operational aspects of the rooms area departments and supervises staff effectively.
- Guides the team to meet or exceed property goals while fostering a motivating and empowering environment for continuous improvement and a strong service ethos.
- Analyzes employee and guest satisfaction metrics to develop targeted action plans aimed at improving identified weaknesses and building on existing strengths.
- Establishes clear expectations for the team in collaboration with the General Manager and verifies the team’s readiness to meet those expectations.
- Demonstrates leadership qualities by embodying self-confidence, energy, and enthusiasm, while assisting team members in understanding and exceeding evolving guest needs.
Managing Property Rooms Operations Function(s)
- Implements the property’s specific second effort and recovery plan.
- Publishes guest satisfaction results promptly, including feedback through comment cards and letters.
- Takes proactive measures in addressing employee concerns, extending professionalism and courtesy consistently.
- Communicates and updates all performance goals and results frequently with team members.
- Conducts semiannual one-on-one meetings with staff and schedules the team in alignment with guest occupancy goals.
- Ensures compliance with operational standards and procedures while performing job functions as required.
Providing Exceptional Customer Service
- Delivers outstanding customer service by being accessible and approachable to all guests.
- Aims for continuous improvement in guest and employee satisfaction while optimizing the department’s financial outcomes.
- Proactively addresses guest concerns with professionalism and courtesy.
- Responds promptly to requests from the customer service department and ensures all team members adhere to hospitality standards.
Managing Profitability
- Conducts the required annual Quality audit with the General Manager and Regional Director.
- Ensures the implementation of an effective key control program.
- Reviews financial statements and performance data to assess productivity, goal achievement, and areas for potential cost reductions and enhancements.
Conducting Human Resources Activities
- Participates in interviewing and hiring processes.
- Promotes Fair Treatment and Open Door policies within the team.
- Ensures new team member orientations are comprehensive and timely.
The salary range for this position is $64,000 to $78,000 annually.
