Server Position Summary:
As a server, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional food and beverage service to all guests, adhering to local health department regulations, Big E’s standards, and Suburban Inns’ Core Values. Your commitment to going above and beyond will ensure that every guest leaves completely satisfied.

Server Essential Functions:

  • Warmly greet all guests with a friendly demeanor, fostering personal connections to make them feel valued and welcomed.
  • Prepare your section before service by ensuring cleanliness and readiness for the lunch and dinner rush.
  • Accurately take guest orders while following Big E’s service protocols.
  • Verify that all guests consuming alcohol possess valid identification and are over the age of 21.
  • Proactively address and mitigate any issues related to excessive drinking, including encouraging guests to limit their intake or arranging alternative transportation as needed, in line with TIPS training.
  • Ensure accurate billing and present charges to guests.
  • Handle cash and credit transactions in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Communicate any guest complaints to a supervisor promptly while also taking the initiative to resolve issues by proposing solutions.
  • Complete required shift duties, including pre-bussing tables and assisting team members as needed.
  • Fulfill closing duties and set up/break down the patio during the appropriate season.
  • Adhere to all Suburban Inns processes and maintain consistent attendance.
  • Perform any additional tasks as assigned by management.

Server Position Requirements:

  • Minimum Knowledge: Ability to interpret and extract information and perform basic arithmetic functions. Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Formal Education and Job-Related Experience: No prior experience required.
  • Licenses and Certifications: TIPS or ServSafe Alcohol Certification is required (can be obtained upon hire).
  • Work Schedule: Shifts may range across daytime, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends, with scheduling dependent on business demands.
  • Travel Requirements: The position does not require travel to other Suburban Inns properties; all work is conducted on-site.

Server Uniform and Appearance Guidelines:

  • Uniform: A uniform shirt and name tag will be provided. Employees must furnish their own Suburban Inns approved blue jeans (as specified in the Uniform Policy) and black, close-toed, non-slip shoes.
  • Appearance: Hair must remain neatly groomed. Facial piercings and tattoos visible outside of the work uniform require management approval. Tattoos considered offensive based on sensitive characteristics must be covered at all times. This policy will be enforced by the supervisor, with decisions subject to review by the Vice President of Operations.
