Job description:

Leads the Design and Construction team in the management of Small and Large Engagement (SLE) construction projects valued at $250,000 or less, providing oversight in areas such as project support, construction codes, Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF), and SLE construction standards, including project and interior design. Overseeing the Planning and Preventative Maintenance team, this role ensures the successful completion of long-range asset plans, facility maintenance planning, energy and water conservation efforts, divisional five-year planning, and project support.

This position drives sustainability initiatives that align with and contribute to the Michigan State University (MSU) Strategic Plan for a Green Campus, promoting collaboration with academic partners and enhancing student engagement. The role also leads the Health, Safety, and Security team, focusing on occupational health and safety training, regulatory compliance oversight, emergency management and business continuity, and strategic safety and security planning, as well as environmental hazard remediation.

As a member of the SLE Executive Leadership Team, this position integrates health, safety, and sustainability considerations into divisional projects while assisting in the creation and implementation of the Strategic Plan. The role requires collaboration with various MSU departments on projects and initiatives to ensure divisional alignment, including Infrastructure and Facilities Planning (IPF), MSU Police, Institutional Space Planning and Management (ISPM), Campus Sustainability, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), and the Office of Civil Rights (OCR).

Responsibilities include interviewing, supervising, scheduling, training, and evaluating full-time staff within the Planning and Projects Office (PPO), as well as establishing and implementing standardized processes and procedures. Additionally, the role entails directing the creation of memoranda of agreement to clarify responsibilities between MSU and SLE and representing the division on university committees and task forces as needed, while also leading divisional project teams as required.

All positions within SLE are classified as critical status. In the event of university closures or modifications due to inclement weather or emergencies, personnel are expected to make reasonable attempts to report for duty as scheduled. Minimum Requirements
