AI Pay Analysis: To effectively analyze the hourly rate for the “Specialist – Advisor-Continuing” role in East Lansing, MI, I would need the specific rate in question. However, generally speaking, hourly rates for advisory roles in educational or specialized contexts can vary widely based on factors such as experience, education, and the specific responsibilities of the position. As of my last update in 2023, comparable roles in similar geographic locations and sectors typically range from $20 to $40 per hour, depending on these factors. Consequently, if the hourly rate you have falls within this range, it can be considered competitive, but if it significantly deviates, either above or below, it may not align with industry standards for this role and location.

Job description:

In the College of Nursing, we prioritize inclusive excellence, health, and community engagement in all our endeavors. As part of this commitment, every team member assumes a leadership role that cultivates a culture of inclusion, belonging, and servant leadership. The academic advisor will play a pivotal role in supporting or co-leading the planning and execution of initiatives that align with the College of Nursing’s mission, vision, and strategic goals, particularly in areas related to inclusive excellence in enrollment, academic advising, recruitment, and admissions for both prospective and current Nursing students.

The academic advisor will assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of processes and initiatives that promote the College of Nursing’s goals and strategic objectives concerning undergraduate student services, academic advising, recruitment, admissions, assessment, and data tracking/analysis/reporting. The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated history of effectiveness in an academic setting, coupled with a strong dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in academic advising, recruitment, program/project management, event planning, and robust administrative capabilities. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing academic advising to a diverse population of prospective and current undergraduate students on academic program planning, encompassing university, college, and major requirements.
  • Advocating for inclusive practices that lead transformative change and creating initiatives that dismantle structural barriers historically affecting disenfranchised, marginalized, and underrepresented communities in nursing education.
  • Monitoring and tracking the academic progress of undergraduate students.
  • Conducting proactive graduation checks for undergraduate students to ensure they remain on track for graduation.
  • Coordinating orientations for new undergraduate students.
  • Supporting the development and expansion of academic success initiatives in collaboration with the Director of the Office of Student Affairs to establish pathways for revenue-generating academic programs.
  • Processing and managing course overrides for students.
  • Teaching at least one section of the UGS 110 seminar for Pre-Nursing students annually.

Additionally, the academic advisor will coordinate, plan, and actively participate in events hosted by the College of Nursing through the Office of Student Affairs, including but not limited to, New Student Orientation, College of Nursing program orientations, Colloquium, Off-Boarding Day, Career Fairs, Senior Off-Boarding Day, graduation events, and pinning ceremonies.

Responsibilities also encompass planning, organizing, and coordinating strategic assessments of all undergraduate-level initiatives, academic advising programs, and events. Attendance at College of Nursing meetings, such as All-College meetings and search committees, is expected, as well as serving on university-wide and college-level committees. All team members in the College of Nursing play a leadership role that nurtures inclusion, belonging, and servant leadership by:

  • Demonstrating commitment to long-term, sustained efforts that enhance inclusive practices in health equity across the College of Nursing.
  • Intentionally fostering an environment that promotes a sense of belonging, inclusive learning, and service settings that enable all individuals to realize their full potential.
  • Recognizing that inclusion is an ongoing journey and striving to advance along the continuum that embraces experiences and resources addressing anti-racist and anti-oppressive principles while acknowledging the systems that influence bias and cultural awareness.
  • Aspiring to be champions of inclusive practices that lead transformative change and create initiatives to reform structural systems within nursing education that have historically marginalized underrepresented communities.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, age, disability, or protected veteran status.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field.
