The Dental Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of our clinicians by effectively delivering the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), fostering a commitment to creating Patients for Life (PFL). The position involves a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory responsibilities. Dental assistants are tasked with preparing patients for oral examinations and assisting dental professionals in providing comprehensive treatment for teeth, mouth, and gums. Collaborating effectively with colleagues, including specialty dental assistants, patients, and front office staff, is essential. A successful dental assistant will demonstrate active listening skills, keep commitments, communicate progress, and address challenges constructively to identify practical solutions.
Specialty Dental Assistants
For those assigned to specialty areas such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatrics, the primary responsibility will be to support clinicians within that specialty, which may necessitate additional training.
Responsibilities
- Perform functions per the applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
- Actively participate in the PPE by maintaining patient focus on optimal treatment while addressing their individual needs.
- Escort patients to and from the front desk and facilitate introductions to other team members as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with front and back office teams to ensure the Orthodontists’ schedule operates smoothly and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment.
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment; ensure operatory cleanliness in accordance with state infection control guidelines.
- Prepare patients for treatment and assist the dentist to facilitate efficient and high-quality dental care.
- As directed by the clinician, complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures of patients efficiently and punctually.
- Prepare tray setups for dental procedures and maintain adequate supply levels in each operatory, replenishing supplies as necessary.
- Utilize suction or other devices to keep patients’ mouths dry and clear.
- Instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care as per the clinician’s directives.
- Document patient charting and the clinician’s notes in the digital patient chart as directed.
- Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health history to the clinician before treatment.
- Ensure equipment maintenance aligns with manufacturer guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with the Lead Dental Assistant to ensure adequate clinical supplies are available.
- Leverage technology by learning and demonstrating its operation to others.
- Participate in daily morning huddles, monthly team meetings, and any additional meetings as required.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED), along with necessary training as mandated by state regulations for certification, licensure, or registration.
- Certifications, licenses, or registrations as required by the applicable state.
- Specialty Dental Assistants must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance, verified through a background check and motor vehicle record check at hire.
- Specialty Dental Assistants are expected to travel reliably to multiple offices per day and may require alternate transportation options if a valid driver’s license is not available. Travel may be scheduled or unscheduled and subject to change without notice.
Preferred
- One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or equivalent education and experience.
