Pet Supplies Plus is seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator who thrives in a technology-driven environment that supports business growth and innovation.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a solid background to tackle new challenges while broadening their database administration expertise within a hybrid cloud infrastructure, encompassing Azure, Amazon, and Google Cloud Platform. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge in monitoring, maintenance, and operational support for high-volume SQL databases, both on-premise and in the cloud. Key responsibilities include the daily administration, maintenance, and management of the MS SQL and Azure database environments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the DBA and IT teams to conduct essential database maintenance tasks, ensuring a consistent and stable database environment.
- Maintain database security standards and preventative maintenance procedures, including but not limited to:
- Monitoring and troubleshooting daily maintenance tasks in the SQL/Azure SQL environments, such as log shipping, backups, replication, and clustering.
- Designing database schemas, tables, procedures, and permissions.
- Utilizing SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS for data management.
- Installing database service packs and cumulative updates as required.
- Working with the Power BI platform for business reporting purposes.
- Assisting DBA and IT teams in incident resolution.
- Establishing and maintaining database statistics, indexes, and agent jobs across the environment.
- Facilitating adherence to DBA and IT standards.
- Automating SQL tasks through job creation and reporting mechanisms.
- Overseeing databases with monitoring tools like Idera and Redgate.
- Creating, modifying, and optimizing TSQL queries, stored procedures, and SSIS packages.
- Collaborating with the IT Services team to assess hardware needs and recommend upgrades.
- Participating in a rotational on-call support schedule for the database environment.
- Implementing and maintaining database security and encryption measures as necessary.
- Demonstrating a strong desire to acquire new skills pertinent to the evolving role of a SQL Server DBA.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a database administrator in both on-premise and cloud-based environments.
- Proficient knowledge of MS SQL and SQL Azure database platforms.
- Experience collaborating with developers on database development and programming projects.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, working efficiently with limited supervision.
- Capability to utilize knowledge and resources effectively for informed decision-making.
- Exceptional organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively within diverse teams to achieve collective goals, alongside the skill to motivate and guide team members.
