Job description:
WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks a dedicated and experienced Student Life Coordinator to join the Student Affairs team. This prominent, student-facing position is primarily responsible for developing and supporting initiatives led by students to cultivate an inclusive atmosphere, along with providing vital administrative and coordination support for various Student Affairs activities.
Responsibilities:
– Collaborate closely with the Director of Student Life and Well-Being to enhance the operations of Student Organizations and Student Interest Groups.
– Act as the Student Affairs advisor for all Student Organizations, assisting with travel arrangements for annual conference participation.
– Serve as a co-advisor for student interest groups with a focus on diversity.
– Provide leadership and oversight for large-scale student-planned events, including affinity month programming, Specialty Speed Rounds, the Big/Little Sibs program, and HeART of WMed.
– Coordinate training programs for Student Organizations and Student Interest Groups, ensuring students are informed about relevant policies and procedures regarding outreach, fundraisers, and event planning.
– Partner with the Student Council treasurer to monitor finances, assisting with the collection of documentation for reimbursements and processing in collaboration with the Administrative Assistant.
– Manage the ordering and distribution of student scrubs, including overseeing the collection of sizes and the process for fourth-year collections.
– Build relationships with students in the Master of Biomedical Sciences program and manage a formal mentor-mentee program for those enrolled.
– Provide counseling and support to students facing academic and non-academic challenges, identifying concerns, referring to appropriate resources, and offering encouragement and assistance.
– Represent Student Affairs in designated committee meetings as assigned.
– Contribute as a member of the WMed social media team.
– Be available to assist with major Student Affairs events such as graduation, match day, white coat ceremonies, awards ceremonies, and transition week activities.
– Staff the Student Affairs front desk two days a week and provide coverage for paid time off as needed.
– Support the weekly student communication email content by serving as a backup prover when necessary.
– Attend several Student Interest Group or Organization events each month.
– Be prepared to work occasional weekends and evenings to accomplish time-sensitive projects.
– Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
– A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with experience in Higher Education Administration or College Student Personnel.
– Prior experience working with graduate-level student populations is preferred.
– Strong preference for candidates with prior event planning experience.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
– Exceptional project management skills with a proven ability to track details across multiple complex projects.
– Superior written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in presentations and public speaking.
– Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
– Ability to operate standard office equipment, such as multi-line phone systems, copiers, and fax machines.
