Position: South Front Desk Attendant
Work Location: Grand Rapids – Lettinga Campus
Department: CCL-Housing & Residential Life
Position Pay Range: $12.48 per hour
Target Hiring Range: Actual pay offered will be aligned with candidate qualifications and experience, the nature of the role, pay equity, and available funding.

Summary:
Desk Attendant
This role is integral to the daily services and operations of the residence hall. Responsibilities include supporting Campus Security in maintaining the safety and security of the residence hall, welcoming and registering visitors, serving as a resource for residents, addressing policy violations in accordance with the Housing Handbook and Student Code, assisting the Student Life Office as needed, and fulfilling other duties as assigned by the Residence Life Coordinator.

Note: Candidates must be available to work from 12:00 am to 6:00 am, including weekends.

Office Assistant
This position provides general assistance to the department by performing clerical functions essential to daily operations and supporting departmental activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in ensuring the building’s security and the safety of its residents.
    • Welcome and assist individuals entering the residence hall, fostering a sense of community.
    • Be knowledgeable about Davenport University policies, answer queries, and address policy violations.
    • Receive and record phone calls, relaying messages to residence life and housing staff.
    • Efficiently receive, sort, and deliver mail to resident mailboxes.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding all matters related to student information.
    • Attend all required meetings, training sessions, and scheduling activities as part of the Residence Life team.
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned, which may include creating and posting signs, collating and delivering messages, and other clerical duties that will vary throughout the year. Attention to detail is critical for these responsibilities.
    • Assist with front desk operations including birthday cards for residents, copy requests, campus safety functions, room tours, inventory management, key checks, and guest passes.
    • Plan and facilitate team-building activities for desk attendants.
    • Deliver exemplary customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our stakeholders.
    • Promote and demonstrate the University’s Cultural Values.
    • Adhere to all relevant external and internal regulations and policies, including those associated with NCAA, GLIAC, and other role-specific regulations.
    • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student, while meeting academic progress standards.
  • A minimum grade point average of 2.5 is required.
  • Preference will be given to students residing in the Residence Halls.
  • Customer service experience is preferred.
  • Proven ability to work accurately and efficiently with computerized data systems, including PC and mainframe applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with diverse audiences while maintaining a positive attitude towards change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated motivation and problem-solving skills, embodying high standards of integrity, ethics, and commitment to the University’s mission.
  • Flexibility to work an irregular schedule, including evenings and Saturdays as needed, as well as additional hours during peak times.
  • This role involves working in a business office/residence hall environment, which includes prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and utilizing a personal computer and telephone (potential for eye and hand strain).
  • Occasional travel between locations is required (personal transportation needed). Lifting requirements are not regular but may involve occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
