GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE
The Stylist plays a critical role in engaging with guests by consulting on their hair care needs and recommending appropriate products and services. This position demands the delivery of high-quality professional services with a focus on enhancing the guest’s overall appearance. The Stylist will work in collaboration with the Experience Manager (EM) and the Assistant Services Manager (ASM), concentrating on performance metrics (service sales and productivity), guest service, and adherence to operating procedures and compliance standards. A genuine passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service skills, and a strong aptitude for learning and communicating product knowledge are essential for success in this role.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)
As an ambassador of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, the Stylist is expected to embody these principles through the following responsibilities:

Performance

  • Provide a variety of hair services, including hair design, haircuts, coloring, texturizing, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
  • Achieve or exceed average weekly sales goals of $800 in service while contributing to overall store objectives in retail and guest loyalty (including credit) and minimizing retail shrinkage as per Ulta Beauty standards.
  • Exhibit business acumen by understanding key business drivers and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Conduct product demonstrations for guests to enhance sales and the overall guest service experience.
  • Aid in the execution of in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives that ensure an unparalleled guest experience.
  • Remain informed about emerging industry trends, products, and services during work hours, and maintain comprehensive knowledge of their ingredients and benefits to provide superior guest service.
  • Maintain consistent, punctual attendance.

People

  • Cultivate guest relationships through thorough consultations and tailored retail and service recommendations.
  • Uphold exceptional standards of customer service and salon presentation.
  • Attend to all guests, including walk-ins, promptly and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team to deliver a holistic guest experience.
  • Establish professional rapport with peers and brand partners, fostering a collaborative environment focused on exceptional guest service.
  • Communicate effectively about the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to salon visitors and salesfloor customers.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions and meetings to support ongoing professional development.

Process

  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere strictly to safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols before, during, and after services, in line with state board guidelines.
  • Follow established service protocols to guarantee a consistently exceptional guest experience.
  • Efficiently utilize booking and clientele systems to schedule guest return visits and events.
  • Communicate inventory needs to the EM to ensure guests are always prepared for services.
  • Maintain high operational standards throughout the store, including cleanliness of the salon, sales floor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and any additional assigned areas.
  • Comply with the Ulta Beauty dress code.
  • Protect company assets through adherence to loss prevention best practices while providing exceptional guest service.
  • Perform other operational tasks as directed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Valid cosmetology license.

Experience

  • Previous relevant salon experience is preferred.

Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the latest salon techniques for haircutting, hair coloring, lightening, styling, texturing, treatments, extensions, makeup application, and ear piercing services (where applicable) and/or a willingness to develop skills in all service areas.
  • Familiarity with equipment and chemicals necessary for technical work.
  • Strong ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Ability to build and sustain strong customer relationships and develop a loyal clientele.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent mobility throughout the shift.
  • Continuous lifting and/or moving of items up to 10 lbs. during the shift.
  • Regular stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, twisting, and crouching.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ongoing coordination and manipulation of objects throughout the shift.
