Job description:

Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, this position is responsible for executing various perioperative tasks essential for the efficient management of surgical patients and procedures in a safe, timely manner. The role involves delivering both direct and indirect patient care in the perioperative environment while contributing to the maintenance of a clean and safe workspace. The incumbent strives for excellence by consistently delivering services that enhance the patient and family experience, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of patient and family-centered care.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Uphold confidentiality of all patient, employee, and physician information.
• Maintain a positive, courteous, and helpful demeanor in interactions with visitors, sales representatives, physicians, and fellow employees.
• Assist the operating room (OR) team in preparing patients for surgical procedures.
• Support nursing staff in patient positioning.
• Facilitate room turnover by anticipating and gathering required supplies and equipment for upcoming cases.
• Aide in the transportation of patients.
• Thoroughly clean and disinfect operating and procedure rooms between cases, including cleaning lights, equipment, and floors, and disposing of waste materials.
• Transport specimens, frozen sections, cultures, and other items to the lab.
• Obtain blood products from the blood bank.
• Assist with stocking operating rooms and managing the outdating of supplies.
• Aid in cleaning and organizing Surgical Services equipment.
• Provide general clerical and support assistance to staff and physicians.
• Complete mandatory education requirements on an annual basis in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate job-related aspects of patient safety to ensure a secure environment, promote the effective use of equipment and technology, and minimize risks of adverse patient occurrences.
• Exhibit knowledge of and adherence to hospital mission, vision, and value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality protocols, corporate compliance plans, customer service standards, and ethical behavior codes.

Job Specifications:

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification as a Nurse Assistant is preferred.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory.

Experience:

• One to two years of experience in healthcare and/or surgical services is preferred.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.

Essential Physical Abilities / Motor Skills:

• Motor Coordination: Regular performance of functions involving manual dexterity, handling objects, using tools, and equipment that requires reaching with hands and arms. Capable of independent travel throughout the hospital and accessing confined spaces.
• Standing/Walking: Prolonged standing and walking are required, including maintaining position while performing certain patient care tasks.
• Lifting: Regular lifting of medical supplies, positioning devices, and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds. Expected to assist in lifting and transferring patients while being able to support up to 75 pounds when repositioning or transferring.
• Carrying: Frequent carrying of items weighing up to 45 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Pushing/Pulling: Required to push or pull weights between 70-100 pounds during patient care and equipment transport. Adequate force (100-125 pounds) necessary for performing CPR.
• Bending, Reaching, Squatting/Kneeling, Twisting: Various physical movements essential for patient care and medical equipment operation.

Essential Technical Abilities:

• Proficient in utilizing modern office technology, computer systems, and telephone systems employed by the organization.
• Capable of using computer software and barcode scanning systems utilized by the organization.
• Basic typing skills are necessary.
