Job description:
The System Reliability Engineer (SRE) is tasked with collaborating with Infrastructure, Operations, and Development teams to enhance system resilience while prioritizing the end-user experience. This role emphasizes teamwork across these departments to automate processes, boost system scalability, and ensure high availability through the application of modern DevOps principles and best practices. The SRE proactively identifies and resolves system issues, champions continuous improvement, and provides development teams with the necessary tools, frameworks, and infrastructure to facilitate seamless integration and deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Measure and optimize system performance, focusing on advancing capabilities, anticipating customer needs, and fostering ongoing innovation.
- Collect and analyze metrics from operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault resolution.
- Design, implement, and maintain automation scripts and tools aimed at improving system reliability and efficiency.
- Collaborate with development teams to enhance services through thorough testing, well-defined release procedures, and effective instrumentation.
- Establish and manage service-level objectives (SLOs) to set clear system reliability goals.
- Balance feature development speed and reliability against well-defined service-level objectives.
- Implement monitoring practices to proactively address system issues.
- Work alongside Digital Experience Engineers and Developers to incorporate application instrumentation through code and APIs.
- Establish and adhere to OTEL standards for systems that cannot be monitored through conventional tools.
- Support incident management processes, including real-time troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and the development of preventative action plans.
- Create, maintain, and update system documentation to accurately reflect the latest infrastructure and processes.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School diploma/GED required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of four (4) years of experience in .NET, JavaScript, or similar programming languages is required.
- Four (4) years of experience working within a cloud or hybrid infrastructure is preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience leading projects is preferred.
- Experience with distributed storage technologies such as NFS, HDFS, and Amazon S3 is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Microsoft AZ-305 certification preferred.
- Dynatrace Certified Professional preferred.
Technical Proficiencies:
- Proficient in modern Microsoft Windows Servers is required.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure is required.
- Familiarity with monitoring platforms such as Cisco ThousandEyes and Dynatrace is preferred.
- Knowledge of managing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) is preferred.
- Familiarity with Terraform is preferred.
- Knowledge of VMware ESXi/VSphere is preferred.
- Familiarity with Linux (RedHat) is preferred.
Additional Skills and Abilities:
- Proactive in identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
- Understanding of observability standards, including OpenTelemetry, and experience in diverse environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
- Capable of managing multiple complex projects and tasks simultaneously, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Compensation:
Individual salaries are determined based on various factors, including qualifications, experience, skills, and geographic location. The national salary range is $120,000 – $150,000, with similar ranges applicable in specific locations such as Maryland and NYC/Long Island/Westchester.
