Summary:
The Trade Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in managing day-to-day trade compliance activities and overseeing compliance programs for UMBRAGROUP’s U.S. operations from our Linear Motion LLC facility in Saginaw, Michigan. This position is vital in supporting Trade Compliance management to ensure adherence to regulations set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce, State, Customs, and other government agencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and apply U.S. trade compliance regulations, company policies, and concepts in alignment with OGA regulations.
  • Regulatory classification of goods and data for export and import shipments, including related trade compliance data elements.
  • Accurately classify parts, tooling, software, and technology utilizing the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S. (HTSUS), Schedule B, Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and other relevant data to assess part functions, material construction, design origins, engineering changes, serial effectivity, and commercial end-use suitability.
  • Collaborate with various departments to develop detailed compliance solutions.
  • Recommend and support enhancements to the company’s compliance processes.
  • Maintain and manage import/export classifications, tariff classifications, U.S. Customs entries, and licensing requirements.
  • Provide support across all functional areas of the company on regulatory compliance issues as needed.
  • Oversee and monitor import and export compliance activities within assigned job functions to ensure adherence at both project and program levels.
  • Participate in compliance reviews, projects, and training efforts, acting on behalf of management as required.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Person, as defined by ITAR regulations.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, information systems, business, or a related field is preferred, along with knowledge of U.S. Trade and government agency regulations (e.g., EAR, ITAR, HTSUS, Schedule B, FDA, EPA, FCC).
  • Familiarity with company policies and procedures to resolve standard issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience interfacing with DDTC, BIS, OFAC, and ATF.
  • In-depth expertise in ITAR Chapter 22 parts 121-130 and the 600 series of the CCL.
  • Specialization in providing strategic licensing solutions, including deemed exports.
  • Proficient in commodity jurisdiction and classification determination, capable of addressing formal Commodity Jurisdiction or CCATS submissions.
  • Ability to manage inquiries and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a positive demeanor in a schedule-driven environment.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. export control laws and regulations.
  • Familiarity with business unit marketing practices and product lines.
