In this role, you will engage in a range of duties under close supervision while maintaining a solid understanding of state and federal guidelines pertaining to water and/or sewage treatment plant operations. Your responsibilities will include:
– Assisting in the operation of water and/or sewage treatment plants, which involves the use of equipment such as comminutors, bar screens, lift stations, primary and secondary settling tanks, trickling filters, activated sludge systems, chlorination processes, recirculation filters, sludge digestion systems, as well as high-service plumbing, storage, and distribution. Duties may include adjusting flow patterns, cleaning screening devices, transferring sludge, and backwashing filters.
– Adding chemicals and changing chlorinator tanks as necessary.
– Receiving training and assisting in the maintenance of critical equipment, which includes lubricating moving parts, making adjustments, replacing packing, and replacing worn components.
– Repairing waterline breaks, water meters, automatic controls, chemical feed equipment, and other essential plant machinery.
– Supporting the operation and repair of additional equipment whenever required.
– Performing general groundskeeping and housekeeping duties to ensure the facility is well-maintained.
– Receiving training to conduct daily chemical tests (including alkalinity, hardness, pH, chlorine, fluoride, and turbidity) and accurately record the results.
– Assisting in the upkeep of treatment plant documentation and records.
– Aiding in the preparation of daily and monthly reports on test results and plant inspections.
– Overseeing and/or performing general maintenance tasks at the water and/or wastewater treatment facility, such as preparing seed beds, mowing grass, painting buildings, and plowing snow.
– Implementing operational modifications as necessary during emergencies to ensure compliance with EPA requirements.
– Attending annual training sessions, meetings, and participating in committees as required.
Qualifications include formal education in arithmetic, including proficiency in fractions, decimals, and percentages, along with reading, writing, and speaking in English. A minimum of three months of training or work experience in safety practices is required, along with a valid driver’s license.
