Position Overview: Universal Grinder
As a Universal Grinder at BWX Technologies, you will be responsible for setting up and operating both internal diameter (ID) and outer diameter (OD) universal and surface grinding equipment, including both conventional and CNC machines. Your role will primarily focus on generating precision finish dimensions on a diverse range of complex production and tooling parts. You will enhance your operational effectiveness by collaborating with fellow operators on established procedures and performing housekeeping and other job-related duties as assigned by your foreman.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate universal and surface grinders to perform intricate, close-tolerance grinding operations on various production hardware, tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, forming-die parts, and other necessary components.
• Select, install, and dress grinding wheels, completing setup changes with minimal design information, including mathematical calculations as required.
• Adapt work-holding devices for irregularly shaped parts, ensuring correct alignment and concentricity using measuring devices.
• Develop NC programs during setups utilizing G and M codes.
• Utilize expert knowledge of precision grinding practices to achieve exceptional tolerances and finish on internal, external, straight form, and tapered surfaces.
• Interpret complex blueprints to accurately determine specifications for size and finish.
• Demonstrate attention to detail in setup processes, including dressing wheels to meet tool design specifications.
• Inspect work using various precision measuring devices, including comparators and electronic gauges.
• Ability to work off-shift hours, specifically from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM or 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the setup and operation of manual and CNC internal/external universal grinders; completion of an accredited training program will be considered.
• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Ability to demonstrate skills on a test piece, if required.
• Proficient in CNC control, capable of editing speeds, feeds, tool offsets, and fixture offsets.
• Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, procedures, and work instructions.
• Familiarity with measuring instruments, including dial bore gauges, indicator snap gauges, verniers, and .0001 micrometers.
• Competence in maintaining accurate documentation.
• Skill in developing NC programs during setups using G and M codes.
• Knowledge of multi-axis grinding contouring, as well as wheel dressing and grit/size selection to ensure adherence to precise tolerances as dictated by blueprints.

The starting rate for this position in Ohio is $39.83 per hour. The total compensation package includes a comprehensive range of medical, retirement, and other benefits, details of which will be provided upon receipt of an employment offer.
