Job description:

This labor-intensive role involves the hand assembly of pallets for both bulk and route trucks, requiring meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in loading outgoing trucks and unloading incoming shipments. The Warehouse Person (Loader) will work from an electronic order system or order sheets to build loads, utilizing a forklift and/or electronic pallet jack. Responsibilities include maintaining accuracy in loading operations and adhering to shipper and receiver documentation requirements, while following specified warehouse procedures for load construction. A clean and safe work environment must be maintained at all times.

The position entails working in varied weather conditions and may involve fluctuating hours based on workload, which can vary day to day. Key functions include transporting full pallets of products from the warehouse to trailers and returning any unused pallets or plastic flats.

In bulk truck loading, employees select and load designated packages and flavors of products onto pallets. Proper stacking and shrink-wrapping techniques must be employed to ensure the stability of each pallet, which is typically loaded onto a trailer for local delivery. This role also includes unloading returned products and pallets/plastic flats. For route truck loading, selected products are loaded based on specific sales orders, with the responsibility of unloading returned items as well.

Physical demands of the role include lifting product cases ranging from 20 to 45 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift, along with continuous standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, and grasping.

Primary Job Accountabilities:

  • Operate a power pallet jack or forklift to reach picking areas and build pallets/loads according to load sheets or voice-pick audio equipment, where applicable.
  • Mark load tickets for any out-of-stock items.
  • Securely wrap completed pallets.
  • Submit paperwork for verification prior to loading and ensure the truck undergoes a thorough check.
  • Stage and load pallets into trucks when ready.
  • Complete partial pallets and organize mixed pallets.
  • Uphold housekeeping standards within the work area.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Helpful Experience:

  • Prior experience in a warehouse setting, such as order selection, product staging, and operation of powered pallet jacks or forklifts.
  • Familiarity with basic forklift operations, including maneuvering, lifting, and lowering.
  • Experience with racking systems and pallet management, focusing on vertical storage maximization.
  • Collaborative experience within a team environment, emphasizing cooperation and joint problem-solving.
