We invite you to attend walk-in interviews on Tuesday, March 11th, from 9 AM to 5 PM. We are offering two starting dates for new hires: April 21st, 2025, or May 19th, 2025.
The starting salary for this position is over $50,000 per year. By participating in just two overtime assignments per week, new staff can enhance their annual earnings by an additional $30,000. Additionally, new Youth Specialists will receive their first pay increase after six months of employment. No previous experience in corrections is required; we are looking for individuals who are committed to learning and growing within the role.
Key Responsibilities:
The Department of Youth Services (DYS) is seeking a Youth Specialist (Juvenile Correctional Officer) to join our diverse and dynamic team. This individual will play a critical role in overseeing facility operations while providing mentorship, guidance, and support to the youth in our care. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a robust background and a genuine passion for helping youth rehabilitate.
As a Youth Specialist (Juvenile Correctional Officer), your specific responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring the safety, security, custodial care, and supervision of assigned youth.
- Applying training to observe, intervene, and de-escalate youth behaviors and conflicts.
- Managing security and facilitating positive interactions during and after family visits.
- Completing all required documentation, including reports, logs, and evaluations.
- Overseeing the movement of youth within facility grounds and during external trips.
- Monitoring and instructing youth on general housekeeping responsibilities.
- Staying vigilant regarding unusual behaviors and potential crisis situations.
- Collaborating with and providing relevant information to division leadership.
Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. and hold a valid driver’s license. Successful completion of the Juvenile Correctional Officer assessment is also required. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application or meet the equivalent minimum qualifications for employment. Please note that there is a probationary period of 365 days.
