Job description:
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Youth Center Director or designated supervisory personnel, this position is responsible for providing direct care and supervision to residents of the Youth Center. The role involves assisting in the maintenance of a safe and secure environment while implementing treatment programs. Responsibilities include:

– Providing direct care supervision of residents, contributing to behavior assessments, planning, and executing daily activities in accordance with established plans.
– Collaborating as a team member by attending meetings to discuss resident behaviors and planning strategies.
– Documenting residents’ behaviors and activities on a daily basis, utilizing point sheets, observation notes in a resident log book, incident reports, shift change notes, and resident files.
– Offering informal one-on-one counseling to support residents in decision-making processes, addressing concerns related to family issues, court hearings, academic responsibilities, and interpersonal relationships, and referring residents to mental health professionals as needed.
– Supervising daily hygienic procedures for residents, including distributing clothing and personal items.
– Organizing and engaging in recreational activities such as arts and crafts, games, gym events, and outdoor activities, with the potential to develop and teach additional programs upon approval from CCYC administrators.
– Transporting, escorting, and monitoring residents during appointments, court hearings, and visitations.
– Assisting with the intake process for new residents, gathering pertinent information, conducting searches for contraband, assessing potential health and suicide risks, and orienting residents to CCYC program rules and materials.
– Supporting teachers, trainers, and volunteers by serving as a classroom aide and addressing disciplinary issues as necessary, while assisting residents with classroom tasks and studying.
– Instructing and overseeing residents in daily housekeeping chores, including performing laundry and other housekeeping duties.
– Aiding in the management of the token economy and behavior modification techniques in alignment with approved training, individual treatment plans, and established policies.
– Intervening in crisis situations as required, following protocols for physical and mechanical restraints, room confinements, or other appropriate measures. Reporting significant disciplinary actions to the Shift Supervisor/Director.
– Understanding and recognizing stages of group development, adjusting group management strategies accordingly.
– Supervising residents to ensure compliance with security protocols, which include conducting security checks, monitoring resident counts, performing room inspections, and overseeing security camera surveillance.
– Evaluating medical emergencies, administering first aid, distributing authorized medications, adhering to nutritional requirements as instructed by medical staff, setting up after-hours emergency medical care, and following universal precautions.
– Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

– Completion of a standard high school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences is preferred.
– Experience working with youth is preferred.
